ADELAIDE TAXI FARES STILL AMONG LOWEST IN AUSTRALIA

When the approved 3.24 per cent increase in Adelaide metropolitan taxi fares starts next Monday, Adelaide’s fares will remain among the lowest in Australia.

This will mean an increase of just 60 cents for an average eight kilometre trip on Tariff 1 ($13.50 to $14.10) and just 30 cents on Tariff 2 ($16.40 to $16.70).

Under Tariff 1 Adelaide fares will be the second lowest of all Australian capital cities and third lowest under Tariff 2.

Following a request from the taxi industry the State Government has approved an increase in metropolitan fares based on real costs of the taxi industry over the last 12 months.

These include a range of cost factors such as fuel, parts, labour and insurance.

Fare increases will apply to Tariff 1 (Monday to Friday 6 am to 7 pm) and Tariff 2 (all other times including public holidays) as well as the Country Running rate.

A fare subsidy is available for passengers with a mobility disability through the South Australian Transport Subsidy Scheme (SATSS).

The SATSS subsidy is capped to a maximum of $20.00 of a taxi fare for members entitled to a 50% fare subsidy and $30.00 for members entitled to a 75% fare subsidy.

In 2006 the Government increased the subsidy benefit for SATSS by 33% over the previous limit (from a total fare of $30 to the now $40 total fare) and the maximum number of vouchers to be used in a six month period from 60 to 80 vouchers.
