Adelaide’s taxi drivers have sent a clear message of “care” to the community this morning as they unite behind the search for the 2008 Adelaide Airport Taxi Driver of the Year.
A large contingent of cabbies attended the Launch of the Awards by the Hon Minister for Tourism, Dr Jane Lomax-Smith.
“The sheer number of drivers who turnout for the launch is indicative of their commitment to encouraging high standards in the industry,” said Taxi Council SA Vice-President Wally Sievers.
“These awards recognise drivers who provide an excellent level of customer service,” Mr Sievers said.
Nominations for drivers are made by the travelling public and judged by a panel of community leaders, who assess the entries according to the following criteria:
- Driver Knowledge and Skills
- Courtesy and Helpfulness
- Driver Vehicle and Presentation
- Safety and Comfort
- Service to Passengers with Special Needs
Winners will be announced each month for the next three months and the ultimate winner will be crowned the 2008 Taxi Driver of the Year at a gala dinner in November.
Passengers who nominate drivers for service that “stands out from the crowd” will be eligible to win $500 each month, with Award prizes totaling $20,000.
“There are lots of drivers in the industry who pride themselves on delivering exceptional service – this is about recognising them as an example of what the industry aspires to,” Mr Sievers said.
